Nice shots - I really feel some could benefit from some creative processing though. Black and white, channel adjustments, that sort of thing - to take them from "cool!" to "wow!"

you have the elements there, especially in that A10 shot, #4.

Nice pics, Shame the A-10 wasn't in the air longer!

I got the dreaded "err 01" on my camera 10 minutes after arriving.. so no pics for me

You beat me to starting this thread by minutes! Some nice snaps - #4 is pretty nice!

Here are some of my efforts from yesterday (Saturday):

If you have any tips on composition it would be muchly appreciated - this was my first airshow with a lens of long enough focal length (70-200mm). Most of these are cropped down from the originals, so I have sky to play with!

Cheers all, and to think we nearly turned around went home after an hour and a half sat in a queue for the car park in pouring rain! :)

I'll get around to messing around more with the pics. The A10 shots a straight out of the camera, just a resize for web. Others I have run through a quick auto levels, and quick tweaks here and there.

I know I was gutted when the cut the display short! Oh dear not good! Although it is nice sometimes to just sit back and watch the displays :)

Nice shots. As you now know, cropping is your friend when they are flying above and away from the crowd line. I've only got a Sigma 150-500, but it isn't too bad. At the moment my main area of interest if trying to get the shutter speed as low as possible for rotor and prop aircraft. Just to get a nice blur. This was a bit of a nightmare though on Saturday with all that wind!

Considering the weather forecast, Saturday turned out wonderfully in the afternoon, although yes the wind was a bit awkward. I only ever seemed to notice any gusts just as I was aiming for the money shot on a propellor!

Do you know if using an image-stabilised lens would help with longer exposures when you're panning? Or does the panning motion confuse the mechanism?

Some lenses do have panning mode for the IS. This mode will allow the sideways movement but try to fix any up\down deviations (some lenses have a vertical and horizontal panning mode I believe?). My 150-500 has the sideways pan, but to be honest I haven't noticed it helping too much (tried it with and without).

I even took the lens hood off at one stage to reduce the area catching the wind! :D

Cheers :) We got so lucky with the weather on the day as it turned out!

The Lancaster only went up with a lone Spitfire, I don't know why the Hurricane wasn't flying?

Those are great :) If you don't mind, I had a quick play around with your A10 :) Since I'm editing from the JPEG the quality sorta sucks, but eh!

I really like the sharpness in these photos. It's rare that you get such detail in shots like these.

Great work Julian...

I'd take any of them SOOC. Why screw with excellence?
