A Bluray player might be able to play those files, but a DVD player will not know what to do with them.

You need to "author" a DVD, so that your hi def 7d content is down converted into 480p.

No bragging list - I just rent whatever the job requires.

Just remember that your camera shoots 1080p. A DVD is only 480P.

So a DVD player will not know how to handle a high def .mov file.

When you author a DVD in Nero, the software converts the 1080p file from the camera into a lower resolution format that a DVD player can understand. It puts in the Menu so the DVD player can find your chapters.

The videos straight off the Canon 7D are H264 1920x1080 and if you want to burn them to DVD as you have found out - they're in the wrong resolution for a standard definition DVD.

You can transcode them with something like mpeg streamclip into the correct format for Nero.

It's free and found here :-

But now you've upgraded your PC why not go for BluRay and burn them in their native definition?

With kind regards
