Canon said it takes 7 days once they receive it. Would 2nd day air shipping make it faster? I will ship it off myself cause I heard when you go through a camera shop it takes much longer. I also heard that Canon repair center in Newport News, VA doesn't work on 5d mark II's? Anyone here had any experiences with repairs and how long it takes? Thanks in advance. My camera is under warranty, so thats a plus for me. My camera has been back focusing when my subjects are in front of a walls. I always manual af point and use center point focus most of the time in group photos and the camera still focuses on the background wall etc. BTW I was using F8 and still focus on the background....

Here are a few shots.

btw I didn't need to MA any of my lenses cause it was the same lenses I been using with the camera. Even my new sigma 50 1.4 I bought last week was doing it against the walls :( Canon reps told me I need to MA all my lenses............. I called again and the other person told me I need to ship it in for repair (I was already going to do it)!

You were using F8? Well I'm pretty sure at F8, you are going to have the background in focus. Have you tried any of the 1.4 or 2.8 apertures up close?

the first picture looks alright.

i recently shipped mine off after seeing a white dot on my videos. turns out it was a dust on sensor so i guess my problem was easier to fix than yours. it took me a total of 5 days from me shipping it out to receiving it, but i'm from ny to nj. i think you'll get it back in a week or so though, no worries. they're pretty quick.

I didn't use f8 on those pictures, but I did do it during a wedding and it was the same outcome. If you look at the first picture you can see how my son is soft and the other stuff is sharp.

On your first picture, where were you focusing on? From the looks of it you were focusing on your Son's shirt. Are you using a single center focus point the recomposing after or just focusing on the shirt? You might want to change your cameras setting and bump up the shutter speed a little. Also use a better flash like a Canon 430 or 580 with a diffuser or soft box.

Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Lens: 50 mm
Exposure: Manual exposure, 1/41 sec, f/5.6, ISO 1600
Flash: On, Fired

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

They said they adjusted some sort of electronic assembly for the AF that was forcing the camera to back focus.

Shoot those same shots when you get it back, I'd like to see the before/after comparison.

Tried to find a good picture of it focusing on the wall when I used center point targeting on the bride. this is a unedited version, but you can see how the bride looks soft and everyone else while the wall is in focus.

The wall looks soft to me. The Brides maids look in focus. With such a shallow depth of field very little will be in focus.

Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Lens: 28-75mm f/2.8
Shot at 32 mm
Exposure: Manual exposure, 1/200 sec, f/8, ISO 1600
Flash: On, Fired

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick
