Ouch. Replacement parts for the 1D series are on a certain auction site. Don't know how difficult a job it would be. Pretty sure I saw that LCD window on there for about $16+ shipping.

Well that is one way to compromise the weather sealing...

I'd guess in the neighborhood of $250-300....but you'll probably have to send it in to get an estimate done.

When you have children the camera and lens(es) are either around your neck or in a protective backpack or bag.... Never "on the counter".

my Kodak point and shoot was destroyed from my son tripping over it when I was downloading pics using the cable.

I keep cameras well out of reach now.

so sorry this happened! I'd be sick...

A friend of mine had her 3-yr old son decide to help mom with installing the CF chip...several new pins and a trip to Canon later...

I have two kids, 13 and 8 now. I started letting them play with my cameras when they were 5. Now they take better pictures than me. Very different perspective. You just have to teach them and they will respect your cameras.;)

You've definitely got to have a lot of patience when you've got children...

Just call the Canon parts department and order the LCD cover kit, it won't be anything more than $20. Just pry the pieces out of its channel, use a blower to blow all dust and debris out, then put on the new cover. I have to assume it is much like the other cameras' top displays. I have replaced a couple of xxD top LCD covers before.
