Im a new member and I currently have a Rebel XT and I am trying to see it and move up to a better model . I need to stay at the $400-$650 range.

Iv looked many reviews from the XS to the T3 and Cnet dosent care for either so I am asking what should I get if I want to step up from the 8mp XT that I have had since 2007.
Whats importain to me:
More the 8MP.
Good low light shooting
good JPEG at 800 or higher.

What are you planning to shoot in low light? You mentioned wanting good high ISO. Is that just family stuff, or sports?

The reason I ask is that often you'll get a better bang for your buck with lenses or a flash, rather than a new body. The new bodies are usually a minor image quality increase while moving to better lenses or learning how to add light can be a major increase.

I go to a lot of conventions for one, but stuff like wedding's where they dont like flash photography.
I want to like the t3 @ the $500 point ..Im just not sure if Im making a good choice. But I guess any newer model will be better then my current Rebel XT.
My # 1 choice to get something new is ,Im trying to get away from Compact Flash.

You still may be better served by getting yourself a good flash and better lenses.

Thank you CRN, I just want to upgrade so I can get away from CF memory because my imac has a SD reader built in .

So get a USB CF reader or use the USB cable that came with the camera. That's not a reason to swap bodies, IMO, unless you have too much money to burn.

The best thing for low light is to get a larger aperture. If you get the T3, you'll still be stuck with your two pretty low end f5.6 lenses and you'll be running out of light in anything but daytime. The T3 can do decent 3200, but it still doesn't look as good as the XT at ISO 800, which you can do with an f2.8 lens. Or in the same light with an f1.4 lens you could be at ISO 200. I'll take 8 megapixels of the XT at ISO 200-800 over 12MP of the T3 at ISO 1600-6400. I would put your $600 towards a faster lens or two if you want to see some real improvement in image quality. If you just want bells and whistles but the same pictures, then get the newer body.

I've got a lightly used T1i, gripped with some other extras within your budget.

Invest in lens. With the maximum budget of $650, you could go for some primes that would help you in your low light situations.
