With the help of an interpreter, I was able to convince security at a demolition site in Fuzhou, China to give me brief access. An entire city block containing about 20-25 apartment buildings were in varying states of demolition and were to be replaced. In order to progress, sometimes we need to demolish things.

I must admit though, I am amazed at everything that is recycled in China. You wouldn't believe how much scrap is collected and reprocessed manually. I am almost certain that all the metals, wood, paper, and even bricks are reused in some capacity or another. It's mind boggling.

That last shot is incredible as there are still people living in the building as a portion of it is being demolished.

They're called "nail houses". People who hold out (refuse) to leave their house in order to get better negotiating leverage. It hardly ever works, afterall, it is Communist China. Literally half of the building they were living in was already demolished. It was insane.
