Just curious, what do you guys think the most popular DSLR for Canon was in 2010-2011?

I'd say that by far the most popular is the xxxD series. I'm guessing it outsells all the others put together. Then the xxD series followed by the 7D/5D and then the 1D bodies.

Based on the early returns I would say that folks are choosing the most popular POTN camera, not the most popular with the general public. That would have to be the rebel series hands down.

To be honest, I'm surprised there's more votes for the 7D than the 60D. Seems to be more popular on these forums.

Large numbers sold does not equate to lots of decent photo's being taken.

If you go here on Flickr (external link), you'll see that the 5D2 gets more images posted than any other. Of course, you can argue that Flickr's a site for photographers so it's biased toward more serious users. Still, I found it interesting that the ranking for the past month goes.... 5D2, T2i, 7D, T1i, XSi

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.

Gotta agree. In the general population, the Rebel series is the most popular. POTN folks are a bit more serious so you'll get more 7s, 5s, and 1s than you'll see in the general public. ;)

Rebel/KISS/xxxD line is far and away the leader.

If by 'popular' you mean best selling then it is the Rebel line by an enormous margin. The higher end the camera, the less Canon sells.

It's got it's own built in biases, but upload activity on Flickr gives one way of looking at it... What camera users own and use the most....

According to Flickr statistics, 5DII has the most uploads in the past month, T2i/550D is second and 7D is third, T1i and XSi are fourth and fifth.

In the past year on Flickr, Canon uploads have come from 5DII, XSi, T2i, T1i and 7D.

In total, the most images on Flickr from Canon cameras have been posted from XTi, XT, XSi, 40D, 5DII, 20D, 5D, 30D, the original Digital Rebel, and T1i, to name the "top ten".

The bias here might be that Flickr users are not representative of the global market... Are more active posting and sharing their images online, so perhaps are fairly advanced users or enthusiasts.

But somehow I think this is more representative than asking POTN members what's most popular, in their opinion. I recall a poster a couple years ago who had a number of 1D series cameras and every available L-Series, but had never actually shot any images with some of his gear. He even admitted his $12,000 800/5.6 IS had never been used. Me, I'd be out huntin' for things to photograph with it, if I had that lens!

Another possible bias, if POTN members are in general more advanced enthusiasts than the general public, then we might expect to see more of the mid to upper models of cameras, than the entry-level model that Mom and Dad buy with a kit lens to take snaps of little Billy as he's growin' up.

I simplified them to the question at hand (Canon DSLRs by the categories of the OP's poll), but here are the sources:
