Borders is closing shop, permanently. If you've got gift cards (I just used mine), you'd do well to use them pronto. I bought a bunch of birding-related pocket naturalist guides.

Been on-going for a few years now. It was bound to happen with all these e-readers. And the price for the books is cheaper and you get it right then and there. E-readers are expensive but with the money you save per book and convenience, it saves up quickly.

The fact that Amazon (a direct competitor) does their fulfillment might have had a little to do with it...

You can sometimes find great deals on used books at Amazon which can be even cheaper then digital downloads. I have bought some that were in brand new condition for less then 50% of original price.

The last 3 books I purchase Walmart was cheaper for the paperback than Amazon was for the E-book!

That's the best part about borders. $3 to ship a used book, +$1 for each additional used book. On amazon, it's $4 shipping PER used book. I bought 9 used books last night and it added on $12 shipping--on amazon, that would have been $36 shipping.

I've never paid shipping on any Amazon fulfilled purchases.

Amazon-fulfilled. That eliminates 75%+ of the sellers on Amazon. All of the rest will charge you shipping, whether you have a prime account or not.

It was only a matter of time before this happened, but it stinks actually seeing it come to pass. I prefer grilling/recipe/bbq/cookbooks in paper format... I enjoy browsing through the different recipes to see if there are any that id like to try, before blindly purchasing the book.

That would be nice, if it were true. But e-books are often more expensive than their printed counterparts and they aren't tangible. I'm a huge tech nerd, trust me, but I still love my printed books. I like having books to keep around.

I wasn't seeing any markups, at all. Pretty much everything was already MSRP. Only new books and bargains used to be discounted. I went in today and the place was jam packed. Never seen the place with 1/5 that number of people. Didn't see anything 40% off. Everything was 10%-30% off.
