Technically it is a sport, although the competition wasn't always about the race (excpet to the beer garden).

Everybody seemed to have a great time, so that's all that matters.

This one was in North Bend, WA, east of Seattle. They do this all over the country, probably around 20 sites or so. There seems to be a lot of these type of events popping up, with various "themes" and distances. This one was about 5k, there are others that are 10k. There's about 10 obstacles that they have to go over or through along the course with the last 3 grouped at the end, Cargo Net climb, run through Fire, and then the mud pit.

The frustrating thing is you can't really get to any of the other obstacles to watch/photograph, the general audience is relegated to the finish. Of course, as you can see that is quite entertaining. I guess they want to make sure they can capture every little bit of revenue by selling pictures too (event photographers stationed all along).

Who would have thought someone could make a business out of getting people to pay to run around and play in the mud. Who says capitalism is dead

Wow, thanks but no, just a spectator. There were of course the on-course photogs clicking away from their perches, I think you can over pay for low res photos from them on-line. I only saw one Pro-photog walking around with a press pass. I would hope and assume she got some good shots as she didn't have to try and survive the scrum along the barriers.
