The 420ex arrived (it is HUGE!) and I've begun using it to burn holes in the walls of our house. :-) Really cool flash, powerful, but very well controlled.

A problem, though. I have the Sto Fen omni bounce attachment, and it is VERY tight to attach. I have to really work to get it to go on. I'm wondering if they mis-packaged the one I got and it's really for another flash.

I worry that I'm going to scratch the body of the flash head when I slide it on. Can any other Sto Fen omnibounce/420ex owners comment on how tight the fit is with theirs?

Thanks,

Dana

Hi Dana

Don`t worry it is normal because it is new.Eventually it will fit nicely. But, before:

1)Put it in than take it out.
2)Do it several time, be careful, hold your top of your
420 ex firmely .
3)You`ll see, after many tries it will be easier and easier to put it in.
4)It will not damage your 420 ex.

I also thought I got the wrong stofen as well..it only went halfway through with a lot of pushing when I got it. now after using it for 2 months it goes all the way with a little bit less pushing..apparently the material stretches over time and I think it's better to have it tight than lose.

Dana,

It's normal for the omnibounce to be very tight when new but I've forced mine in all the way to it's max without any scratch damage to the flash head (maybe I'm just lucky). I emailed Ernie from Stofen a while back about this and he recommended to stretch the long side of the omnibounce before inserting. Eventually it will be easier to mount and remove once it's broken-in.

Thanks, guys - I'm very much relieved. I was envisioning having to find the almost certainly lost omnibounce packing materials to try to exchange it... :-)

Phew!
