I'm confused about what I should do,
Recently purchased a 27" imac i5 and so far its been alright, I really like the monitor.
However I've recently encountered a new pc at my work place selling for $1269 that has some crazy specs,
gateway fx6860
i7 sandy
16gb ram
gtx560ti

I'm debating if I should bring back the mac and trade it for that in the long run, Because I will be doing a lot of HD video editing and gaming.
What should I do guys

The iMac comes with an IPS monitor, adding around $900 to the cost of the system. I seriously doubt the Gateway has one. Gateway also has the worst satisfaction and repair record of any big box computer company (Consumer Reports) while Apple has the best for both. PC company's make there money on support and bundled software while Apple makes almost nothing on support and bundle no third party software. Either way, you're going to pay. If you have to buy PC software it will also cost a little more. The good thing is Apple computers retain ther value while PCs drop pretty quick, so if you do want to sell it you'll get a good price if you choose to sell later.

fair enough, I'll instead state a reason I prefer PC to Mac.

Expandability is the biggest reason for me. I've upgraded my PC (box only) 3 times since I've owned it and I still haven't paid as much for it as my mom's macbook pro. To my knowledge, a MAC isn't nearly as flexible.

I understand that everyone things the world begins and ends with MAC's where this sort of work is involved but I do so much more with my desktop and my laptop besides photo editing.....my Flight Sim X setup is enough reason for me to keep using PC lol

HD editing is smoother on the mac. I would stick with that. But the gateway has the power for HD editing but since it's a gateway, I would stick with the mac. I rarely seen people happy with the gateway after a year or so.

now this I agree with. I forgot it was a Gateway, they're pretty hit/miss.

You can't compare the expandability of a desktop to the price of a premium laptop, it isn't logical.

To accurately compare a macbook pro to any other laptop, it will have to have the same type of body (aluminum, not plastic), the same quality of screen, similar specs, and then you have to factor in the commission from bundled software and the size and weight of the machine as well as the durability.

Also, chances are a laptop from dell or HP or gateway are not more expandable than an apple laptop.

Desktops are NOT laptops.

That being said, if you do a lot of gaming, go for the trade in - but be prepared to do a fresh install of windows to get rid of the crap ware and to drop a chunk of cash for a display that is anywhere near as good quality as the iMac's large 27 inch chunk of IPS sexiness.

I have Dell XPS 15" i7 laptop for almost two years. Previously Dell Inspiron 15" duo-core latop for 3 years. NEVER had any issue with crap ware/virus, etc. I don't download stuff that I don't pay for. I don't even have virus protection(3rd party app) running currently, just Microsot Security Essentials running. I run a 30inch Dell here with incredibly nice quality, also full 8bit IPS panel, and HP also has some nice panel. Imac panels are LG/Philips AFAIK.

Desktops are NOT laptops.

thanks for the tip.

When I hear PC I automatically think desktop, when I hear laptop I assume it's a windows based laptop. When I hear Mac I assume it's a laptop and overpriced :D

my Toshiba has had the memory expanded and the HD space doubled (after my last one died). From my understanding it's not so easy to do on a MAC.
Also, I'd probably shy away from using a laptop for Flight Sim anyway (as the OP was saying he uses it). I just like the hardware options on my desktop more for that.

Crapware is what comes preinstalled on the system.

Pay attention,.

As stated. I NEVER had issue with crap ware (/ as in slash) virus, etc. You need to pay attention to that.
Also, crapware can be removed with this app (external link)

Not for nothing, but Aluminum is overrated. It's a pretty soft metal, and there are many plastics that are actually stronger than it. It also doesn't compare to the Magnesium-Titanium alloy used in some other laptops, like Thinkpads.

If you want a fair comparison, compare Macbooks to other companies' business models, not consumer models - Thinkpads, Lattitudes, Elitebooks, etc. Apple prices their Macbooks similar to those ones. And quite frankly, those ones come with a LOT more features, much better battery life, and most of them have more durable casings as well.

Did you buy a PC? Was there crapware? Did you remove it?

If so, than yes..you did.

In fact, you proved the point by posting a link to a piece of software specifically designed to remove this annoying software...
