Hi, another question for you all....

I cropped some photos in LR3 to 11 x 26 inches.

Exported to desktop and looked at the image size in PS5 and the dimensions are 30.89 x 13.45 inches.

Why is this? I just don't get it or see where I am making a mistake....

My head hurts again..........and while we are here, can you change the default measurement in LR to mm or cm or pixels if you want to or is it always in inches?

It's not possible to crop an image in LR to a specific dimension.

If you want to print to a specific size -

Crop the image to the correct aspect ratio. In this case 11 : 26, or 1 : 2.36

Export and, in the Export dialog:
Check 'Resize to fit:'
Select 'Dimensions'
Uncheck 'Do not enlarge'
Enter '11' x '26' and select 'in'
Select 300 dpi for the resolution.

If you are referring to the Export dialog (only thing you could be referring to I guess.....no, could be Print module also) the answer is yes.

What your seeing is the same aspect ratio, but viewed at a different print resolution.
Note, the print resolution is meaningless when viewing it on your computer.
It is only useful if your using a direct to print printing set up where the printer driver uses the dpi setting in the files exif.

It is if you use the Print module and print to file

Sure it is. But what you can't do like you can in Photoshop is also choose a custom resolution when cropping.

Your screencap isn't showing cropping to a dimension, just a ratio. A dimension includes units - pixels, inches, rods, poles or perches, etc. A ratio is dimensionless.

Ahh yes, it's the aspect ratio...not an actual size in LR...thanks Frank.

I usually crop for blurb books and obviously the aspect ratio fits the image size box I create in blurb so assumed (ahem, the mother of fu..ups) the LR crop was in inches...

But all is good, fully sorted now for what I want to do so ta for all the answers...
