When I started to really get into photography, I was totally into glamour, studio portraits and the like. But lately all my gigs have been kids and family. To be honest, I'm totally diggin' it!

Here's a few from a session with a beautiful family last Sunday. C&C appreciated! Still learning, need all the help I can get!

All shots are natural light, 5D with 28-135 except the 50 1.8 on the first one. Still no good lenses.... the noise is high on some of these because it got dark really fast! Had to crank up the ISO more than I liked.

Thanks guys. When I meet these clients, the first thing I say is "So today is gonna be all about having fun!" I find it puts people at ease and sets a nice mood.

Superfly, all I've ever known are the cheap lenses. I just make due with what I have :)

I actually find that it's hard not to take a good picture with a family like this. I wish they were all this easy! Thanks Tim. I appreciate it!

Great job... Really. The 28-135 is considered a kit lens for some of the higher end cameras such as the 7D and such, but this is still amazing... When thats all you have you can make the best of it! As given yours is proof! :) thanks for sharing! the light looks amazing btw.

Whoops!!! The first one was taken with my nifty-fifty. All the others here are with the 28-135

Thanks for the kind words guys :) I'm a huge fan of natural light. It's easy to use and highly representative of what the eye is used to seeing anyway. Don't get my wrong as flash lighting is great, but I'm really limited without an assistant while chasing kids down

Nice set! #5 is the standout to me. I really love that photo and I think any family would be happy to have that one. A great candid, so genuine!

Quick question: This looks like "Treasure Island Beach" in Laguna. Did you have a permit? If not did you have any resistance when shooting there? I've heard horrible things abbout OC beaches and I am really trying to scout out places that are more "photographer friendly".

Thanks!
-Rob

Thanks for the compliment! :)

I don't know about Treasure Island Beach, but it's just north of the main beach situated between Myrtle St and High Dr. Laguna does actually require a permit, but I didn't have one. If I was a full time photog, I'd get permits and be legit so I don't have to worry about being hassled. However, this is something I only do maybe 5 times a year so I like to keep a low profile and not make a big deal out of it. I come in board shorts and get in the water so I blend in. I use only natural light so I don't have any obvious equipment like reflectors or OCF. If anyone asks, I just say they're family and we're having fun.
