I am noticing that my 580 seems to need extra FEC to be as bright as it was on my T2i. Is this something I am imagining? I am shooting in relatively the same lighting conditions and same camera settings but, the images appear to be darker on my 5D without bumping up the FEC.

Am I crazy?

Could just be the LCD brightness.

Check the histograms, or do you no longer have the T2i? Also, you didnt accidentally leave an ND filter on or anything right? :D

I noticed my 50D LCD screen was brighter than my 5D2 screen when I first got it.. I went through the same thing.

Hmmmm. This could be the case.

I do not have the T2i with me at the moment; a potential buyer has it. But now I would like to compare the two. lol, no ND filter on it.

Interesting. I think this may be the case.

No, you're not the only one. I noticed the same thing when I moved from 50D to 5D2. I can't really explain what the cause was. For me, it wasn't the LCD brightness. It was actually darker and underexposing and had to bump the FEC just as you did.

What I did finally do was change the external flash E-TTL setting from "Evaluative" to "Average". This is under the custom function. The sppedlite needs to be on your camera and turned on to access this area. This seems to work for me. YMMV.

Interesting. I'm assuming that the change you made was to the metering mode of the flash? Could that have any bad affects?

Yes, the metering mode of the flash..not the camera itself.

It works for me. I like it much better than the "evaluative" mode. No ill effects on my side. You can try it out and see if it works for you. Very easily reversable if you find that it doesn't work out.

Perhaps someone else can chime in.

Well, I changed the metering mode to average and that seemed to help a little. Broke my CatusV5 in the process by dropping it 4ft on to CARPET. Two screws, that are now somehow stripped, fell out of the inside.

Guess I may be upgrading to the PW FlexTT5 sooner than I thought. Haha

I just upgraded to the 5d2 from a t2i also. I notice what you do too. The 5d2 screen is not as clear and bright as the t2i. THe 5d2 has only 902,000 dots compared to the t2i which has 1.04 million. Hope that helps.
