This is the rest of the set posted here: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1068793

Dance pose and jump shooting is my dream. I'm trying to learn the best lighting and camera positioning for it. The dancers getting their parts right is another story LOL.

Weather permitting I will be shooting 3 to 5 dancers this Friday.
I've chosen a tennis court for this shoot. I feel there was too much going on in the background of this shoot. The tall green fence of the court should provide a nice bland backdrop allowing focus to be squarely on the dancers!

This is like my dream come true, this kind of photography!!! Wish me luck!

Solid backgrounds work good too.

Looked at the link you provided. I think with a solid black or even some type of lighter color background those shots would look pretty awesome. Also have them wear something a bit more flowy.

I don't want to hijack your thread so here are two links to two examples:

Nice shots but I find the backgrounds distracting (love the brick).

Thanx thebishopp!

The problem at this point is location. I don't have access to a studio or stage where I can dictate the scene fully. So I must shoot outdoors for now and choose a wall or something to place behind them. A large fence, although quite patterned, should provide enough monotony that the dancers will stand out.

As far as attire goes...at this point i'm just telling them to wear something comfortable and that allows them to move. Eventually I would like to get them in more traditional attire (tights, leotard, etc...) and do some really beautiful shots.

For the shots this Friday I'm going to try to bring an acro box and have several of the dancers bring their pointe shoes.

BTW: Here is my inspiration. I have not seen a better dance photographer for what I want to accomplish.

His stuff amazes me to no end!!!

EDIT:
Oh yeah I forgot...
Besides a white BD socked in some pictures, All lights were bare. I'm not too fond of that harsh specular light.
If the stars are aligned I hope to bring my softbox and PLM to the tennis court Friday and lay down a little softer light!

He is really good. His best stuff, imo, is the shots with either the solid backgrounds and he highlights the dancers or the ones in which he chooses backgrounds that frame his subjects and don't distract from them. In fact I think you could achieve the same look with the lighting you have, some solid backgrounds (or better location backgrounds) and a little bit of photoshop (for the highlighting and vignetting).
