I went to watch my (new) local team last night and took the camera. Hopefully I’ll be following them for the season ahead, so any C&C would be very welcome to take into the new season

no.3 is great, plenty of action in the first, but I think seeing faces is what makes a good action shot great.

#3 is the only good one for me... The other shots are underexposed and not really interesting backs.

Even though you can't control the background, you need to be aware of it. Minimize the distraction from the players, either with contrast or out of focus.

Action should be coming toward you so that you see their faces. Rarely will a back shot be impressive unless someone is really getting creamed.

Vary your angles,... get down on the ground, or get up a bit higher. That will not only change your perspective, it may help with background distractions.

Timing is critical. Chasing a ball is not as interesting as striking one.

Thanks for the tips! I knew there was something missing…two eyes, one nose and a mouth! Basic mistakes and can’t believe I missed them

That was my first match, and I learnt so much from it…can’t wait for the next one to correct the mistakes.

Exposure wise, I agree again. I’m upgrading the body soon so should be have better ISO & noise performance.

Thanks again.
