ELPH 300 HS - LCD use vs battery

Anyone with an ELPH 300 HS...Can you completely turn off the LCD screen while taking pictures? Also can you set review time to zero? I realize that there are power saving options, but if I'm running very low on battery power I would like to be able to avoid LCD use completely.

I have a Powershot S45 currently and often times turn off the LCD screen which easily doubles the battery time. I know the ELPH 300 does not have a view finder, which is OK by me because I have gotten good at just point-and-shooting and estimating what I can get in the picture (I get lazy with my S45 view finder at times when the battery is low).

I don't have a 300HS but to answer your question. You can set the review time to zero with most powershots. As far as turning off the LCD when in record mode...no you cant do that. Invest in a cheap third party battery to backup your primary battery when it's running low.

Get a spare battery.

Thanks for the replies...it is disappointing to hear that I cannot turn LCD off. I did, however, read a bit about CHDK and am hoping that software comes out soon for the 300 HS. When it does, the ability to turn off the LCD may be included.

^ just curious, what kind of photography is that?.... Pointing the camera at something without the use of a LCD or viewfinder for framing/composition and deeming the shot acceptable..

LOL...yeah, desperate times call for desperate measures. Mostly for landscape where I can crop the shot later...I'm an expert at the technique now and my battery loves me!

It's easy to buy a $5.00 back up battery.

you can also turn down the brightness of the screen too, that may add a slight amount of time, but as others have said, bring along a second battery, once it drops low it goes pretty fast,
