I'm very happy to report that the ring for the 28-300 L ordered from Canon parts USA, will work!!!! The eBay Chinese ring for that lens, WILL NOT WORK. There is a different locking mechanism that the Official Canon one has that allows the ring to close and have "wiggle room" and lock down. The Chinese one, did not have this wiggle room and was too small. Here are a few pictures. The bottom picture shows the ring totally closed, but there is still a gap. This doesn't impact anything, other than how it looks. It is totally secure. Canon EOS R

You can see that it has a pin screw into the ring to close the ring. This is a different design than the official Canon ring and will not work on the 70-300. So, if the Chinese ring looks like the official Canon ring, it might work. But if it looks like this, it definitely will not work. Hope this helps. Canon EOS R
