So I got to do a group portrait shoot for a stagette party. Not of the actual party, the girls were all done up and thought it would be cool to get some awesome photos before hitting the party, since they were all dressed to the nines.
They wanted me to shoot in my fashion kind of style, which was fitting for the shoot so I was totally game for it.

1. First shot. I was originally planning to do this one with natural light but after previewing the shot, I changed my mind and flashed it instead. (See original non-flash test here (external link)). I made them wait a few minutes in that pose while I ran around setting up the lights. LOL. It turned into a 4 light setup.

2. Second group pose. 5 lights. I showed them on the back of the cam and they said, "It's awesome! Look at how bitchy we look!" hahahaha

3. Third group pose. Natural light. I asked them to temporarily tone down the bitchiness for this shot. LOL.

4. And then we did individual shots with each girl. With the ridiculous 8 pic limit, I can't show all of them, but here's a couple.
IMAGE: http://www.nightanddayphoto.ca/misc/forumpics/POTN/CassandraL/191800_0424.jpg

5. Each shot is a 3 light setup, and I brought a fan and various fabrics. They chose which fabric they wanted according to their shoes. (You can see their shoes HERE! (external link))

6. And this is the bride...

7.
IMAGE: http://www.nightanddayphoto.ca/misc/forumpics/POTN/CassandraL/193533_0468.jpg

8. And of course, lots of photos of them just having lots of fun and laughs together.

The most difficult part was probably teaching 7 girls a crash course in how to pose well.
But it was nice to do something wedding related that's a little different.

C&C appreciated. Thanks for stopping by.

Wow, the ambient sure was boring in the original version of #1 compared to the flashed version.

Very cool series!

Got any pullback shots?

Yeah, it worked for the most part. It's hard to get a good fashion style look without it.

I was pretty pumped for this shoot. I was glad they asked! It was nice because we weren't running within the tight schedule of a wedding. So I was able to spend time with every girl and show them exactly how I wanted them to pose. I had time to set up 4 or 5 lights. Stuff you normally just can't spend time doing on a wedding day.

No, I don't have any behind the scenes shots. I should have taken some, huh? I never think about that until I've already left the shoot. I really need to remind myself to do more of them.

Awesome shots.

Technical Question....why does the background look dark in some areas when you use the flash? Is it because the camera is exposing for the amount of light from the flash and the areas that don't have light from the flash expose darker?

When you use flash, you have to decide what kind of balance you'll use between flash and ambient light. If you balance the two, it can look very natural. If you bias it towards flash, then the ambient is darker. In this case, I HEAVILY biased the flash and cut out almost all of the ambient. That darkens any part of the photo that isn't lit by flash. Flash photography is always about blending two photos into one, the ambient photo and the flash photo. Your settings allow you to decide how much of each you use.

Huge fan. Great work Lloyd. That looks like a ton of fun. I love this kind of stuff. Did you do this to help market the wedding and was it something extra that they paid for. We do the engagement session but this looks like a heck of a lot more fun.. Just curious ?

Awesome stuff as usual:cool:
