I will be traveling to Atlanta for business next week and lately I have been bringing my gear whenever I have to travel. I have collected some beautiful night skyline images of many cities that I have visited with the helpful "best location" tips of other POTN members.
Can anyone please tell me where I would be able to find a great (and safe) location to shoot the Atlanta skyline? Thanks in advance to all that repsond ;-)a

I have not spent much time taking city shots of Atlanta, but hope to sometime in August once I am back home from school. I would suggest that you be careful around the campus of Georgia Tech (near the Varsity & MARTA station area also). While you shouldn't have a problem that is a bit more dodgy than others from my experiences. You might want to think about getting over to Lenox area I know there are a few views of that skyline by a river, but once again I cant give you directions (only seen the shots). Make sure you post them, love to see your shots when you return!
PS: if you got time you should come to my suburb (Roswell) and hit up the Roswell Mill at Vickery Creek. I got a few shots of the waterfall on my webpage. Its a cool place to visit if you got the free time. Its about 20-30 minutes from downtown depending on where exactly you are staying (maybe longer if your really south).

The best skyline I remember from Atlanta is on the ride from the airport -- I remember saying to myself "Oh yeah, I could live here":)!

That is a nice skyline view for sure. I like the one I see a ton on I-20 West on my way to school. You pass a hill and you see it far away in the distance. It looks awesome, but I know that the photograph wouldn't work because its a bit too far to get any clarity in the shot (too much smog :))

I just remeber, that there was a tower with. Restaurant which was turning around once within an hour. But i've been there in 2000 or so.

Thanks everyone. I just saw on Flickr some nice pictures of Atlanta from the parking deck of SCAD. I'm going to have to call there to see if I can get in the lot.

The Jackson St bridge is probably the most over-used, easily accessible spot for skyline photos. Just be careful if you're traipsing around there at night with expensive gear

You can also get some nice shots from some of the taller buildings in town. Some you can get into, some you can't.

FYI, just called SCAD and they do not allow anyone other than enrolled students to photograph from the parking deck :-(

Yes. There is a gate and security.

The two best spots are the Jackson St. bridge and the North Ave. bridge. I would not do the Jackson St. bridge alone, but I have done the North Ave bridge on a couple of occasions and I don't think that one is a problem. It is located between GA Tech and the Varsity. There is actually a hole in the fence that someone (a photographer is my guess) made that works for a camera on a tripod. Here are a couple of shots I took there:

You will also be fairly close to Centennial Olympic Park, the GA Aquarium, and the Coca-Cola Museum. Here is a shot I took at the Olympic park:

If it's not too hot outside, you can walk around the Midtown area around Piedmont Park or in the Downtown area around Olympic Park. There are plenty of buildings to shoot in those areas.
