I want to add a background or two to my studio "stuff" for what I term "classic" portraits. I have in mind the typical mottled colors that I often see behind the subject in formal portraits of people. I've been looking for something like that in a muslin background on B&H, but can't seem to find what I am looking for.

I'm going to build or buy a portable background hanger (two stands and a bar across the top) that could handle paper on rolls or cloth backgrounds. I'm considering a minimum size of 10x10 feet for the (painted muslin?) background(s) that I am looking for.

I already have a plain muslin background as well as a denim background that I got from a local sewing center that I use for tabletop stuff, but I am looking for much more interesting stuff for the portraits. I lalso will be getting some black velvet, or something similar, for my tabletop stuff and for some kinds of portraiture that I have in mind.

In addition to info about the specific type of background I have in mind, I would like suggestions (with specifics - manufacturer and part number) for what y'all have found to be good. Backgrounds that are well appreciated by the folks you have photographed are what I want to hear about.

Frank, I've been looking in the Pros section just now - a forum area that I haven't been into very much before - and don't see anything that gets specific about the commercially available backdrops. If you find something, I would appreciate it very much.

Search "backdrops" gets these:

Thanks. It's nice to know the precise word that is more commonly used. Apparently "background", which I did search for, isn't the most commonly used word for the subject.
