Trying out some B&W processing, and looking for general opinions and critique. Please excuse the slightly obtrusive watermark.

I really like esp. #1 - at first I thought "too much symmetry", but because you're using a vanishing point, I think it works. Like the dramatic clouds in 1, as well.

Very nice. Like 1 better, although if you darkened the sky in #2...not necessarily all of it...but more so from the very top down, gradated, as you kind of have it but just more so

They are great but what's the distracting cable-like object reaching for the sky in #2?

I like them both, but feel the sky in the second needs more presence. And that wire needs removing from number two ^^

They are both nice. #2 seems a bit washed out in the sky. And... get rid of that distracting cable (easily cloned out in PS).

Symmetry is nice but sometimes - like in #1 - certain parts of the scene are partially blocked by center pieves in front of them. It depends on what you want to create: something that not primarily shows the pier but makes a nice symmetric image or a nice image showing off the pier..... for the latter you have to take a step left or right.

#1 I like a lot - the dark tonality works for me, plenty of interesting detail in the sea, the sky, the railings have a nice look to them. Other things - the No Fishing sign is perfect, it's the only readable text, so you see it , quickly absorb it getting context about the scene, and your eyes move down the diagonal lines to... the fishermen, who make a contradictory subject! It's great.

#2 I like the texture in the floor, but the rest of the shot doesn't really work for me - it seems too bright to keep my eyes interested in the details, and there's the random cable. Plus the two signs in the shot are too busy and distracting - neither are readable but they keep grabbing my attention. The people just seem like, well, random Penarthians....

Hey from Cardiff btw :)

#1 for me - however a different sky (as said aboev) might work in #2. Your logo makes it a little difficult to see as well.

Saying that ........ I like them both !!

1st one is great. I also love that there is a sign that says no fishing, yet there are people fishing in the background.

Thanks, I kind of wanted the washed out look in number 2, focusing on the lines of the wood.

Its really annoying isn't it?? I need to take a bigger step back when editing and look at the whole picture before posting. Thanks for the feedback.

Damn wire! I might try adding a slight grad filter to it, but I kind of like the washed out look.

Definitely went for some symmetry thanks for your feedback!

Hey from Cardiff btw :)

Where abouts are you in Cardiff? Haven't seen many welsh on here (although I'm an english man living in Wales) Thanks for your critique, I never really took into account the signs in 2, but now its bugging me! I did really want to bring out the texture of the wood in two as I thought the floor was fantastic.

Thanks very much Exif:
Exposure: 1/6th Sec, f11
Focal Length: 17mm
ISO:100
Lens: Tamron 17-50

Its processed using Silver Efex 2 in LR3. I added a graduated filter to the top just under one stop, slight vignette. Then boosted up the contrast in Silver Efex.

Is that good or bad? Where abouts were you from?

Thanks I might try it later! And yeah the logo is a bit much but that is also kind of what I wanted.

Thanks for the exif and PP data.

As a newbie I find it really useful to see this type of info to help me craft my shots. Just hope I can get results like yours. Keep up the good work
