I would go with the first option to get the best ventialtion possible and the Antec sounds like a bargain for 1200 watts.

I'm not going to put it inside. It would go on top. :p I think it's too tall to fit inside, and it would be a major pain to have to try and get to when you want to plug something in in and things like that.

Didn't we talk about not having proper grounding in your home?

why other stuff are not doing that though? I am not sure its really the grounding...

I mean like 90% of houses here are wired like that... and according to my bro (electrical engineer), houses here are designed like that coz the Electrical Poles are the ones that have grounding stuff... so if a lightning hits a post outside, it is unlikely to hit any stuff inside or something like that :D

Because I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE! Computers that are on the ground...

Especially on carpet, it's just a disaster waiting to happen.

I agree with this. I never liked my towers on the floor and always have it on top of my desk.

Well I have an AX-850 in the cart. I'm a bit concerned on it being a large enough PSU though.. I could potentially in the near future, be running overclocked and overvolted GTX 570's in SLI with about 5-6 7200 RPM drives as well.

But I have the option to get an Antec HCP-1200 for $200... it's one of the best PSU's on the market today.

I need to figure out how I'm going to keep my PC off the ground. I'm either going to get something like this (external link) or this (external link), and set it on top... or I don't know if I want to build like a 12" high stand and just put it on that. The two things from Ikea would be about 1.5" lower than my desk as they are some of the leg options for my desk, so that could be nice having it elevated right next to be... the problem is the case is like 28" tall.. so that's awfully high.

That second one looks like a tool cabinet

Oh ok. The second option looks like a dang locker for your tower.;)

So, it's basically a bad PSU eh? Just front the money and buy a new one. You got a great rig and it's sitting doing nothing.

But it's not lightning that's the problem. The computer is designed with a power plug that has three prongs. It NEEDS that separate ground circuit. You are taking away one of it's most essential needs. And you wonder why it fails.

Not entirely true. Depends on where you live on the planet, and how they run their electricity etc. It'll still be grounded, but in a different method.

but all other stuff including our laptops and other appliances are like that, even our airconditioning and none failed and I notice most appliances or stuff designed to be used locally only have 2 flat pins  not sure why... so why the PSU should fail?

and btw, the cheap PSU that I tested on the rig only has 2 flat pins too  so it can't really be the grounding stuff

Yeah...

I think I'm going to just build a shelf. I just need to find a cheap shelf and some cheap legs from ikea :p

If I put it on one of those two options, the top of my case is going to be 49" off the ground

This case is a monster.

22" (H) x 24" (D) x 8.5" (W)

It has no USB 3.0 though... so I'm going to have to work on something.

Edit : I think I found my solution! http://www.lian-li.com …&sc_index=50&ss_index=131 (external link)

according to my brother, the poles/posts are the ones that are grounded... or the transformers hanging there that's why we don't really need grounding around our house.

I actually called him and asked him about this stuff after we all talked about it the last time
