Whatever happened to just riding a bike for fun?:lol:

I rode my bike for fun this weekend! 8 of us took bikes when we went camping. 4 of us went out trail riding. On the way back to the truck we rode through town and took a big, curving hill back down. Had the GPS on my bike... hit 45.4 kph on mountain bikes, in traffic, on pavement with loose gravel on the shoulder, with just a guard rail between us and the vast expanse above the river below. Was pretty fun. The knobby tires sure were screaming :D

Im okay going up hill at the rate i go at now. When i drop down in gears it kills my momentum and i actually risk tapping out. That was my mistake at first. I tackled hills on low gears and peddled my way out of them. Now i tackle on higher gears and i keep a constant rate rate. So while you may want a higher cadence to go up hill it doesn't work for me. My legs are strong enough to power me up at a lower cadence.

Now the next time i go out i will ride a high cadence ride only. This way i keep my legs guessing. Its good to do one of those a week. As well as a sprint a week and a long distance ride a week.

Well as long as you are keeping a consistent cadence the whole way up. So many people start fast and slow down as they go up the hill and that is bad.

Good riders can ride at multiple cadence's so it's good to mix it up, I typically ride at 80-95 RPM depending on who I'm riding with, how fatigued I am and the terrain I'm on. If I get much over 95 I can feel my stroke not running as smoothly, and below that I start to fatigue much quicker.

I don't blame you. You're spending money you worked hard for. So, do as much research when I'm not around, ok?;):p

It is kind of funny though, most of my friends/family come to me when they have a question about just about anything...

It doesn't matter if it bike, computer, camera, cooking, etc related. For the most part, I've been there, done that and have spent more than my fair share looking into it.

True but, I like holding vinyl in my hand, putting it on the turntable, and placing the needle. It's so nostalgic.

Yeah if you were to see me going up hill you dont see a slow down. Its consistent all the way up. I dont have highways in my area i can ride at full speed so i have a lot of slow down in my rides. Sucks but its the nature of the area.

Once you start approaching that 100+ range if you havent trained for it its tough. Lance Armstrong used to keep 110+ for hours  (roids :p )
