go ahead rent it Fricks, I have the Nikon version and I think it takes pretty decent shots... I am sure the canon one will be able to produce same or better results specially since your 70-200mm IS II is said to be better than my 70-200mM VRII

you know that the most versatile among the long lenses is the 400mm f/2.8 right?

you can use both 1.4 and 2.0 TC on it and it will still autofocus.

and with a crop and 2x TC, you will be at an equivalent FL of 1280mm f/5.6

Im really thinking on getting the 400 over the 500 though but probably won't happen till I'm at least 18
