Hey folks,
I want to host my own online portfolio. I am an amateur photographer and want to present my pictures.

Where to host it for free?

For free, flickr or picasa would be best. Granted, those are not really "portfolio" sites as much as they are galleries. If you want to do an actual portfolio, you're probably going to have to spend a little bit. Snugmug (external link) would probably be a good bet for cheap.
