so i dropped my 7D with my sig 30 off at Japan Camera Repair in Duluth, GA and they said i can pick it up when im ready.

anyone else sent their gear to them and what is the chance that they messed up. i had tried to manually adjust on my own but never changed it back to zero in my camera. hope they noticed that

Seems like it would have made more sense to ask this before you dropped it off. Pick it up and you tell us :)

Why did you drop it off for calibration? I had a Sigma 30,I just sent it to Sigma for adjustment.
I would think canon service is better equiped to adjust your camera.

they are local and the sigma factory suggested them so i did. why mail it if i can drive it 20 mins down the road. missed being able to pick it up today because of traffic so ill get it in the morning. i would have had to wait 2 weeks if i mailed it to NY to sigma

and i doubt canon will calibrate a sigma lens to my camera. i think they would charge extra since its not their brand lens...

What about microadjust, did you try that?

i did but i just didnt seem to get it spot on perfect and felt since i am patient enough i would let a pro do it properly. what they did to calibrate i dont know but i was assured it would be tack sharp when i get it back.

main thing from this thread was seeing if anyone out there have used camera repair japan and what their experience was as i dont know what to expect when i pick my camera up. i keep an open mind. but i do hope they did a great job and adjusted it the best way whether its opening the lens or mico adjusting on my camera to make it perfect. since it did front focus out of box but not that bad. but enough to annoy though

Well I can't vouch for the GA office, but when I dropped my sigma 30 off at the NY office in person, the tech asked me if I had my 7D with me and I did. So he asked for the camera to calibrate with the lens. He said this is better because they are calibrating the lens to that exact body instead of the generic one that they have. They don't do anything to your 7D.
Remember that each body is slightly different do to manufacturing tolerances. So they may get it spot on with the body in the office but it still could be off on yours due those differences in the tolerances. Anyway in my case when the tech came back everything was perfect and the MA adjust I had done was zeroed out and everything is fine. So I wouldn't worry much.

i just know that if i was the tech. i would forget little things like checking to make sure the micro adjust is zeroed lol. but thats why i dont do that for a living and instead just use cameras to capture various things in still images or moving ones :P

well got my camera back it was still set at +8 like i left it after asking them to zero it before calibrating. the incompetent employee at the desk took my camera back to a tech to double check and returned telling me that it was test at both 0 and +8 and my camera was zeroed in and worked at both... this is not at all possible as i tested it at both to see if im wrong and it was way off. so after 5 days of waiting my camera is still the same as before and micro adjusted rather than professionally calibrated. not even sure if i should mail it in. i know im not taking it back to CRJ again. very disappointed with their service and i am going to bother them until i get an explanation or they tell me to screw off
