The Scrub Jays around here really love chopped walnuts.

They really are quite accustomed to me. When I put walnuts out I whistle a few times and they generally hustle right over to enjoy the treat.

I have had scrub jays and the Stellars Jay come right up to me in Arizona and Washington state. But they are much more relaxed than these Eastern birds. I've been trying to get my yard jays to come close for years, and they just won't do it. :)

Nice shot. Aren't walnuts a little expensive? I don't know about scrub jays, we don't have them here, but any time I'm bored and want to shoot some blue jays peanuts are like magnets when it comes to them.
