Hi all,

I think I saw a thread about it somewhere before, but I can't find it any more.

Just wonder if any other 3rd party alternative for Canon Tripod Mount Ring D out there? As $190 is bit too much and I rather to buy a lens.

Many thanks

Bought this one on eBay a week or so ago, so still waiting for it to arrive.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au …&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT (external link)

Got the equivalent model for my 70-200 f4L IS last year from the same seller, and I have found it to be very good. Solid metal construction, flocked inside to protect the lens barrel. Looks, feels and works exactly like the genuine Canon product.

I'll post my thoughts on the Macro model when it arrives, hopefully early nest week.

Yes, please post you impressions of this thing when you get it. I buy Canon, but the price on this thing from them is ridiculous.

Speaking of ridiculous, the 70-300L CHinese knock-offs are now being sold for $140!!!
Canon were so filthy greedy not giving that lens the collar for free. And that lens is way heavier than the macro which arguably doesn't need one at all.

But yeah please report back on it. Maybe they will eventually lower the price on the 70-300L knock-off.

The other one posted is for non-IS version, version B of Canon ring.

Hope it's a decent collar as I've just ordered one for myself. :)

I'm a big believer in buying Canon gear as well, but when they want up to $200 for something like a tripod collar, or up to $100 for a lens hood (accessories which some manufacturers include with the lens), I'm afraid I'll almost always go to the grey market.

I purchased this one for my 100 f2.8 Macro (NON-L) on the 10/7 and it arrived today 27/7.
The collar was $10 delivered, and as far as I can tell it is as well made as the genuine Canon product.

It is well manufactured and finished, with the interior lined with a thick flocking to protect the lens barrel, and absolutely no sharp edges to cause damage.

It is a one-piece ring, so you have to remove the lens from the camera body if you want/need to remove it from the lens.

The one I bought from the same seller for my 70-200 f4L IS is a hinged design, allowing it to be removed without having to remove the lens.

For a $10 investment I can't see any negatives with this product at all.

Just a quick update to those that might be considering buying one of these eBay versions vs. the canon version. I just got one for $30 from this seller (external link).

I must say, this mounting ring is solid! I'd just about bet money that it's coming of the same factory line as the canon versions. It's got the nice grippy yet soft stuff inside so that it won't scratch up the lens, but yet allows you to rotate the lense. It has a nice white alignment line. It's metal, NOT plastic like some of the others that I've seen. All in all I'm VERY pleased with it and glad that I only paid $30 shipped. Oh and it came in exactly 2 weeks! Can't beat that.

Hope this helps somebody else just like this thread helped me.

I have an iShoot ring on my 100L. It is great. I can't imagine how the Canon version could really be better. Save yourself about $150 and get an iShoot. You will not be disappointed but be careful on ebay. There are a number of rings for less that are not metal. I have heard bad things about those.

I got the 100L Macro and 70-200F4 IS collars from IShoot recently , they are metal construction and seem well built , so glad I got these guys instead of buying the Canon ones ;)

Howdy Andrew,

Thanks for the link!

This weekend's macro shoot left me wishing for a 100L tripod mount ring . A little bit of searching brought me to this thread. I just ordered one for me and one for my brother :D.
