Most convenient model there is, right? Black sheet on the wall, one continuous light on the right, flash off card from lower front. PP in portrait professional and photoshop.

Does anyone else have the issue that colors in photoshop and windows photo viewer aren't what is reproduced on the web or in picasa?

That's how I intended them to look! C&C still welcome.

Depending on your browser, it may not be color managed and colors will not match what you see in Photoshop. Color management is it's own subject and there is a great thread here on POTN:

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=707058

As for the photos, the lighting is pretty harsh causing shiny spots on her face. Soften the light by using a diffuser of some kind (umbrella, bounce, a white sheet, etc) just not direct bare light.

Exposure looks pretty good (maybe the pillow is a little hot in spots) and focus is on. Don't like the pillow she is holding in #1 too much though. Also, you may want to clone out one of the catchlights in each eye.

Overall beautiful subject and I like that you kept the light and her away from the background to keep it black.

Thanks, James, all good points. The color subject is interesting. On facebook the colors show the same as they do in windows photo viewer and photoshop, but in picasa, on imgur, and even her personal portfolio they are show the way they are here: somewhat washed out and uninviting. The colors are supposed to be very vibrant and saturated.

Color management can be a nightmare in and of itself to me and when you try to get prints to match what you see it's even more of a pain. LOL. Takes time to get it right, plus hardware and software to profile your monitor. The colors look fine on my non-color corrected laptop.

lighting and inconsistent skin tones may be affecting how you see the colors too. Inconsistent color is quite apparent on the left side of her chest in the first pic. Kind of dark blob. Light on the last one is softer and the color looks to be ok, but her face is a darker shade than her hand.

Like the placement of your name on the first one, looks like it caused some jpg compression distortion right around it though.

Yeah that's just imgur's resizing, I didn't realize it would be so dramatic.

Didn't notice the blob on her boob, but now that you point it out it's very apparent. I should be able to fix that.

And I can say with all certainly it isn't the skin tones affecting how I interpret the colors, my profiles are definitely wrong. I have to learn more. I just tried shooting in RAW+L and I noticed the jpegs don't have the color issue (what I see is what I get in every viewer), only the RAW.

Sorry, not what I meant to say. Meant with the inconstant tones it's harder for us to get it right, not that the tones were affecting the outcome.

Not sure why the dark spot on her chest was the first thing I noticed. ;)

Haha, not sure why I DIDN'T notice it. :-P

This will be a new obstacle to tackle. Also, noticed in a lot of my shots, even with having my focus point on manual and in one shot mode, I'm still getting eyes out of focus at times. With an aperture of 6.3 that should give me a little bit of leeway in focusing range. Could my problem be the fact that 500d users can't microadjust?

its darker because its a tan line.....in order to get them even you will have to really start processing, and I think its a shame, because she is a beauty, take her as is.;) I mean photographically.lol....not, you know..:o
Except for the shadow from her finger to her lips, the last is gorgeous.Colors look fine to me?

you're a great friend, but if Zombies chase us, I am tripping you.

I haven't done many portraits, and have the same focusing issues. I have a feeling it's more experience and technique than tools.

:-\ This color thing is gonna bother me a bit. Naturally you want to be standardized so it looks relatively the same on all screens.

Never going to happen - Internet Explorer 8 and below is not color managed at all. IE 9 is kind of. Safari is, and I think Firefox is with a plug in... Not sure though. Best you can hope for is that it looks right on your end. No way to control everyone's monitor on the internet, smart phone, etc.

Maybe not, but what I see is a pretty drastic change.

I think I may not be embedding the ICC profile.

Oh and as far as your focusing, be sure you are selecting the ocus point nearest the eye, then use get a focus lock then recompose if needed. In studio I shoot at f8 most of the time. Hope this helps!

Interestingly enough, I used the "save for web" option and this fixed it. Revised photos uploaded, how I intended them to look.
