I'm having a nervous breakdown :)
Yesterday i was editing and sorting some images from a recent shoot.
I've noticed that alot of my pics didn't seem sharp at the apertures i usually use.
So it seems my 35L(+5d2) have gone soft on me (having the same issue with another body)??

click here for the test shots (external link)

I'm totally freaking out since this is my favorite lens :)
Am i just pixelpeeping or has my 35L really lost his sharpness at big apertures?

I used this chart:

Are there any 35L users who can clarify this issue and give me a good night sleep ? :)

I don't think you have too much to worry about. I've used the 35L quiet a bit and have noticed it's a bit sharper slightly stopped down. 100% crops are very demanding on most lenses wide open.

Thanks for your fast reply!
I agree with you that these fast primes need to be stopped down for super sharpness, but i find the difference in sharpness from F1.8 to F2 really big!

No worries! Quiet often I find that 1.8 - 2.2 is SUPER sharp enough for me, without losing a lot of DOF.

@panda_ do you use a full-frame camera?
The strange thing is, i showed the photo to 2 other professional photographers who both use the 35L+5d2 and they said mine was to soft @ wider apertues!

I'll ask them for test images to compare.

First looks good and the 2nd you missed focus. Too thin of a subject to focus on in the frame so it isn't a good test subject imho. Here's one from when I first got mine. wide open also on 5dii.

Did you manually focus those test grid shots? If the lens is back/front focusing the focus issues will show up when you are wide open since your DOF will be dramatically reduced. If you used AF on the charts, try again with MF and use live view zoomed in 10x to get it exact. If that fixes it, then set a microadjustment for the lens.

@ni$mo350 that's what i'm talking about, your shot is razersharp.
@spreeg, i did some testing with focuscharts via liveview and tethered liveview and shooting, it seems that the focus was correct.

I came in contact with an Canon servicecenter employee and mentioned the possible issues i had with this lens, she suggested to drop it off and now they going to have a look at it.
Since i'm a CPN member i will have it back in a few days.. i'll keep you guys posted and thanks for the advice so far.

Quick update:
Got my lens back from the Canon Service center, they did:
- L27 Adjustment: Lens system
- L30 Repair: AF-System
- L45 Checked: Focus
- L48 Small repair

I haven't had the time for some comparison tests, but the first wide open shots look way, way, way, way!! better :D
