a stand alone shot with no face doesn't do anything for me. In a series where you know who you are looking at it may work, but not always.

He needs some fill light on him, reflector or off camera flash. Why are his feet so bright?
Angle is either too high or too low, not a fan of the location for framing/composition

He needs to be doing something, or needs to be a better background. Nothing really to look at. Its just some kid looking away and some bushes. I totally understand what you were trying to do though. I have kids and would probably love this shot. But no one else would because they don't know what he looks like. My 2 Cents...

Your second shot is great out of the three if thats the pose you want.

Like they said having him look at your would be nice. As also stated above I will repeat because its a good point: you would need to be using flash to fill the light and match the exposure of the background otherwise its overexposed... which is what you did so great in the second shot.

From a composition standpoint you could lose either side of the photo and have him next to the post on either side (preferably the left because no roof in the shot) and have that as your foreground with him.

Just my 2 cents, take it for what you want.

Generally, you need to decide the main focus of the picture before doing the final composition. With him facing directly away from you a viewer would naturally look at the scene. But, there isn't enough that is spectacular about the scene. If the boy is the focus you might consider a different pose and different lighting.
