This is what night time traffic lights looks like reflected in a stainless steel panel of Disney Hall in downtown L.A. I took 8 frames at various angles, I was mesmerized with the constant evolving light patterns. The title was the first thing that entered my mind as I viewed this image for the first time on my computer. I would later print a squared crop for a photo class assignment; Album covers. Name of the fictitious band; Corrupted Vinyl.

Man In The Window
Tuesday, August 9, 2011 - wandering the streets of Chicago in the Wicker Park neighborhood getting some local color courtesy of Allen and Ed, this open bar presented itself complete with the sneering man wondering why I was snapping his photo. Later, as I walked by again, I had to stop and show him the image - his friends started cracking up when they saw it. It's one of my favorites from the day.

Canham 5x7 Caltar 240/5.6 Tri-x 320 ISO 200 f/22 1/125

Sometimes a blatant defect becomes a more powerful statement than the literal in my mind. I was shooting surf in Monterey many years ago and captured a few quiet images on a 5x7 camera. Years later this neg surfaced and a deeper meaning began to emerge in my mind. The tiny sailboat represents an unfilled dream of a child experienced in old age with detrimental factors pushing the dream beyond reach as seen in the waves coming in, the jagged rocks, and this splattered waste across the frame representing forces beyond personal means. All this of course shows what a mind geared towards fantasy can see within a negative that is obviously tainted in development processes. I personally find images like this to be unique and one of a kind. While we can say that about many images some images can be recreated because the setting or circumstance does not change much over time. I tend to gravitate towards unique statements. This is one of those statements.

Happened to catch my reflection in the window and noticed the various angles making up multiple frames - something different since I don't do self-portraits as a general rule.

Initially it was just a capture of the the woman walking briskly to her destination while chatting away on a cell. We had already driven past her once and I chose not to shoot then, so when this opportunity came up, I grabbed it as we passed her and she passed between the windows. When editing, the multiple points of visual interest just sort of presented themselves - triangles, verticals, repeats, and I decided to keep it. Leaving the extra grain/noise was intentional (it was a bit underexposed) and I like the extra texture of it this way.

I photograph to find out what something will look like photographed.

5DII 85L ISO 25400 f/1.2 5s

The result of shooting in the pitch black of night at the highest ISO possible on the 5DII with a 85L wide open. Hand held for 5 seconds I can't see the horse but I know he's there. I fully enjoy the way the camera system rendered this image. This has a significantly different look that is like no other alternative process. The image has a mysterious quality in my eye. I love pointillist type renderings.
