Canham 5x7 Caltar 240/5.6 ISO 200 f/32 2s Tri-X 320 HC11 compensating development My old high school. It was here I took my first and only high school photography class. Now that was old school. 35mm manual, roll development, silver gelatin prints. Nothing like a good school darkroom for printing. I have fond memories that I had no idea would be precious one day. Using a view camera is a unique experience. When it's done right it is magic. However there are a myriad of ways to fail reaching visual climax and they happen all the time unless you are well practiced and know your gear.

It's seen better days to be sure, but is still in decent shape for photography. Inside is just mass destruction - heavy vandalism due to theft, graffiti, etc. but it was an interesting detour nevertheless. The entire time I was wandering I couldn't shake the feeling I was being watched. Naturally, local law enforcement stopped to check me out as well and I must have passed muster because after chatting for about 10 minutes he let me continue shooting. Lighting sucked due to the time of day and it was 113 degress out there, but I got a few that I liked. Someday, someone is going to tear this place down or it'll just wear out by itself, but there is some cool stuff there to see between now and then... I photograph to find out what something will look like photographed.

5DII Leica 180/2.8 APO ISO 800 1/200 f/8 (always best viewed on a color calibrated monitor with a color managed browser) I would have shot this at ISO 100 these days the noise is a bit much for my taste. However there is something interesting in a well known object seen in context with a lesser known object or place. This is part of the bunker system to protect the golden gate harbor. It adds a little more detail to a well known theme. The woman in white is an observer and we become an observer to an observer without knowing what she is seeing except for the north bridge tower of the golden gate bridge. The color palette is interesting.

A place where all the street signs are in place even when sometimes the roads aren't. A whole lot of nothing in a large expanse of desert and yet people are living there, and in every conceivable type of dwelling, from shack to spacious adobe home, and everything in between, including RV's. This is off Hwy 86S, a bit south of Coachella. Ran out of daylight trying to see all of it. Fascinating place. OK, well not really - but unusual to say the least. I photograph to find out what something will look like photographed.

7D: 1/3200s, f/2.8, ISO100, 17mm (35mm eq:27.2mm) Sorry, I'm new to this particular challenge and am adding my comment late. My photograph was taken on a Sunday afternoon at which time there was very little human activity in this quiet little town. The sky was a deep blue and this pattern of worn buildings presented themselves to me as somewhat similarly to Hopper's painting Early Sunday Morning. I took two exposures, one with, and one without the truck. I chose to freeze the action of the moving truck to play in harmony with the stillness of the back ground, much as it might have been painted by Hopper if he too took such an opportunity. I saw the truck coming up the hill and absolutely loved its electric spruce-blue color and felt that it would serve as a juxtaposition with the electric sky above and shadow below. The placement of the truck was up to chance with my shutter, but my intention was to avoid masking the street lamp so as to offer a little visual balance over all. Thanks.
