300D Mod Problem

Ok, so today I decided to do a full spectrum mod on my Canon 300D for astrophotography. It went smoothly until I turned it on to test it out. It gave me a Error 99, so I took the battery out and put it back in, but the shutter button and the main dial next to it would not work. So I took it apart and found that one of the ribbons was not fully in its connector. Now the shutter button and dial works but when I turn on the camera the shutter/mirror opens and shuts maybe 10 times or so and when I press the shutter button it does the same thing even when I have it on single. Does anyone know what might be happening, is there another ribbon not fully connected?

I used Gary Honis mod: http://ghonis2.ho8.com/rebelmodnew.html (external link)

Clear Skies,
Nick Rose

sounds like the symptoms some folks get when the shutter is failing. (I've a suspicion that the microswitches on the shutter mechanism fail when that happens)

I don't know the 300D well enough to point you in the right direction, but I'd be looking for the connector that goes from the shutter to the main board. Them pesky connectors just need to be not fully home & it's trouble...

Well I took it apart again all the way to where the CCD ribbon connects and cleaned all the ribbons, reconnected, and it works now. But for some reason I keep on getting the CbC or C6C error, is this a big deal or is it ok to ignore?

not sure to be honest - I'm away from home at the moment so not sure if I've got a list of 300D error codes. Will have a look next week when I'm home to see if I've got any doco stashed away.

Had a Google and it looks like it could be due to the date/time being reset. Could be the time/date needs set up again or could be due to a flat button battery. I've seen a comment that says it's a flat battery and it's mentioned in the manual.

Edit.
Just checked the manual online and it refers to error code CbC on page 33 and it is the backup button battery that needs replacing.

found a PDF file with some of the service manual in it - doesn't have enough to help the problem but might help someone else: www.syeager.org/300d/uploads/300D_service_manual.pdf (external link)
