I'm looking for a VERY portable solution for outdoor fill-flash shots! Would I go wrong with one of these: http://www.amazon.com …/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
? What are the alternatives at a similar price range?

The most likely answer is this will do you absolutely no good at all. At distances of more than about 5 feet they dont soften the light at all on a human sized subject.

It would be used with my only flash (430EX) for now to shoot portraits within 5-7ft. So, no go?

This doesnt increase the size of your light source in any significant manner compared to the subject at more than a few feet. I would buck up, get a shoot through umbrella 40 inches or so, and use the wireless features on your camera/flash.

I think I'll pass then and just buy something better later. Thank you.

But if you havent started with off camera flash yet, give it a try. An investment of about $60 and you are good to go. Umbrella = $25, about that for a cheap stand, add a bracket $15ish and you are good to go.

I will eventually go the umbrella or bigger softbox route.

I use it hand-held off camera (triggered wirelessly by my 60D pop-up flash) to shoot at receptions, etc. Next step up might be a Cheetah Qbox 24 (see relevant thread on POTN). Hugh
