Mobil 1 Grand Prix of Mosport 2011

Most of you probably don't know me as I am not a regular poster in this forum. I am a regular poster in the 'Bird' forum, although I have not been active in recent months due to other commitments.

This past weekend, I photographed race cars for the first time and wanted to post some images here to get some feedback as I plan on returning to Mosport later in August to photograph the Superbike races. This appears to be an active forum and thought it was the best place to get some informed input.

As I was merely a spectator, I did not have access to the same shooting locations as the paid professionals, but did manage to find a couple of vantage points that gave me clear views and decent perspectives... at least to my eye.

All very well done.

Great shots, nice and sharp. To evoke a greater sense of speed try panning with a slower shutter speed around 1/60th or so.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make it out this year to catch them... maybe next year!

Thanks a lot. I don't think my shaky old hands can shoot that low a shutter speed and still have the car look sharp enough, but I will try slower than I have.

I'm not familiar enough with the different makes to know but here are a couple of additional cars that I also captured. Please let me know if I'm getting close to what you want.

That's great work for a first attempt.
Give it a try with a slightly lower shutter speed next time, I think you'll get better results than you expect.

Thanks a lot, Brett. I'll give it a try. I hope to make the Superbike races there in 3 weeks.

Looks really good for someone who doesn't normally shoot cars. You did well choosing your perspectives, the angles work well for the cars.

Good pics, you might want to drop the shutter speed a tad to get more motion in the wheels as a few look abit static,
