I wanted fellow photographers to be able to view my comments I emailed to Delkin after purchasing the Delkin Picture Pad 20GB portable storage unit, before you decide to buy one:

I would like to share my thoughts with you to help with product development.

I bought the 20GB Picture Pad (PP) from SSDonline and just received it today. I had not actually seen one in person, but from the reviews I read online as well as from some users, this seemed like what I needed.

I soon found out that an old firmware version was installed, which doesn't allow me to view RAW files, which I use most of the time. I tried to install the more current version on your website that allowed viewing RAW files. I followed the instructions online as well as in the owner's manual and it wouldn't work, time after time. The Picture Pad kept showing up as the F: drive, but when I pressed 'Finish' or whatever the prompt was to install, the prompt told me it wasn't able to make the file changes on the F: drive, which was the PP. Although I had selected the F: drive, the dialogue box kept showing 25 GB were available, so I think it was still reading the C: drive instead. I tried refreshing the directory, everything I know of and it still wouldn't work.

Besides this, when navigating through the menus, sometimes the buttons I pushed, either the * or #, were unresponsive. Nothing happened on the screen even with ample time allowed. I had to turn the unit off, then back on several times. Very frustrating. Not to mention the time it took to access files.

I was surprised that the unit's CF card slots were not protected with a cover, allowing dust and dirt to get into the unit. I would think this would cause problems over time when exposed to the environment.

I thought the unit was very 'plastic' and cheaply made for the $400 price tag on it (not to mention the price you suggest on your website).

All in all, I think it was a poor investment and I am returning it to SSDonline immediately. I will make sure I post my comments online for other photographers to view before they make the same mistake.
