Is there a shortage of the 70-200 2.8L IS Ver I? I was thinking about selling my UW copy because I need the money and I started looking to see how much it would cost me to get back in the saddle once the money situation improved, but I couldn't find any new at BH or Adorama. Ebay has some used action but they were all in progress and had hit ~$1400 but not ended yet.

I guess since there is no more production of Ver I people are just hanging on to their copies. There's a seller on ebay who's got three BNIB units wanting $2135 each!

The Ver II can be had for a couple of hundred more. I thought Ver II was MUCH better than Ver I; is it really?

I guess you could equate "not being produced anymore" with a shortage. :) Yes, II is much better than I.

I think Mark 2 is being produced over Mark 1 so the market is focusing on the newer technology.
