Finally the 5D is available in shops here in the Netherlands. I saw it in three different shops in Rotterdam today, for prices between € 3199 ($ 3840) and € 2999 ($ 3600).

I briefly had it in my hands, the size and weight are practically the same as the 10D. The viewfinder is ofcourse a BIG difference. It has a really large viewfinder, it even seems larger than in my old analog EOS 30 (which I sold last month).

I wanted to buy it for € 2999, but the shop didn't accept credit cards and the amount was too large to get out of the ATM (€ 1000 per day max.). The bank was closed after 4 pm, so I couldn't get to my own money... now I'll have to be patient until Monday...

That IS a good price - beats the cheapest (that I can find) in the UK by almost 300 Euro. Maybe the saving would pay for a trip to Rotterdam! (But not quite yet).

Why would a store that sells high priced merchandise not accept credit cards? Wouldn't they lose a lot of sales that way?

Thats going to be a painful wait !!! If I use cash at Jessops instead of a debit / credit card , I get funny comments , It must be safer over there , people tend not to carry much cash here:lol:

I bought my 70-200L at a local camera store. They agreed to match the best legitimate price that I could find on the Internet, but only if I would pay with cash or a personal check. Retailers have to pay an additional fee everytime someone uses a credit card. Therefore, paying with cash, in my case, got me a lower price and at the same time helped the store maintain a bit more of their margin.

Well, this is not the USA, not everybody has a credit card here. The guy told me "no, we don't take credit cards, accepting credit cards it too costly for me, and you'd have to pay 2.5% more".

Tomorrow, tomorrow...... :D

No credit cards, I would still be using a pin hole camera.

Yeah. Some merchants here don't accept all credit cards for just the same reason, or offer a price break for cash/check.
