I would like to know how people use their DPP.

When I take pictures of people/portraits I stick to the following settings in dpp

raw tab
Neutral
saturation 10
sharpness 10
contrast 1

rgb
sharpness 250
saturation 120
contrast +4

then I apply a slight noise control +1 on each level to tone it abit.

anyone got any pref?

I'd be interested in seeing an image with those settings, particularly with so much sharpening and saturation!!

Do you realize the raw and rgb controls are 'additive' - i.e. after applying them in raw the rgb ones will add to the effect?

Portraits: Neutral, everything about 0, sharpness maximum 3 or about USM 1/1/1.
RGB tab: Everything zeroed. Maybe slight chroma NR.

Sharpening 10 and 250 should look absolutely hideous (unless you're exporting for a small web image, but even then…)

You will find that different people use different settings for different types of images. Take your time and work with images and keep reading!

I was in the same position as you when starting to shoot raw and process in DPP (about a month ago). I did a lot of research on this subject, and it is true, everyone is going to have different settings based on picture styles, preferences etc. Heres my starting points which I most likely further adjust from there
Contrast 1
Highlight -1
Shadown 1
Color Saturation 1
Unsharp Mask: Varies, I play with the sliders alot

I also apply sharpening in the RGB tab after resizing and converting to tif
