Depends which one. I've got Hoya Pro1 Digital filters on a few lenses and I don't see any loss of IQ (but then I don't have any L's). I hear good things about Hoya HD and Hoya Super HMC filters too.

Decent but not as good as B+W, there are some reports on Hoya filters affecting long tele lenses like 100-400.

The 77mm Hoya HMC filter can be had new on ebay for $35. This isn't really an amazing sale. Too bad it's not the Super HMCs that are included--much better filters.

Tests show the Super HMCs are better than the Pro1's. They let in like 2% more light than the pro1s. I haven't seen any logical reasoning behind the high price of the pro1 series.

I got caught up in the UV filter craze some time ago and use Hoya SuperHMC UV(0) on most of my lenses. Since there is always chatter about this topic the best thing to do is try them on your lens and make a decision for yourself.

I setup test shots (particularly with the 100-400 because of the constant discussion) with and without a filter. I can confirm that my 100-400 is particular about what it does and doesn't like but the SuperHMC is one filter that has had no noticeable impact on IQ. I like to pixel peep on RAW test shots so I feel pretty comfortable making this statement. I can also say that the 100-400 and Canon's sharp cut UV filter didn't get along one bit. The IQ was horrible with that combination.

Not too surprised by that. When it comes to filters, Canon simply doesn't do right by its customers. Nothing but junk. Nikon, however, makes some really nice filters.

Thank you OP! I just bought a B+W CPL filter for much cheaper than what I can find on ebay and amazon. I am slightly worried as it is going to be shipped from Hong Kong (although I grew up over there...) However, I have seem some positive review for them on various forums and am hoping everything will be okay.

I bought from them before without any problems, just gotta be patient with shipping. I think it took about 3-4 weeks.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I don't mind waiting for a little to save some money. I am hoping it will be a little faster shipping to San Francisco, as it's "only" one ocean way .

In my experience usually 1 to 2 weeks max.
Unless they didn't have it in stock 3-4 weeks sounds off.
