Ok guys posting in behalf of my wife, she has been a maternity and newborn photographer for a few years now and wanting to move into the world of birth photography (there is a suprising market for it here!!) she wants to know what people feel the best lens(s) would suit this job, personally I told her the 16-35 2.8 and the 24-70 2.8 as she will be shooting in about 6x8mtr Room in low light so 70-200 is almost out of the question, she is shooting on a 1D so taking the 1.3 crop in 16 isn't to wide and 70 will have a decent reach.

She currently owns a 50 1.4 and 85 1.8 and borrows my primes if needed

Personally I'd shoot with the 400 2.8 and be as far away as possible or the 600!! haha,(that was an attempt at humor)

So tell me some one here has done this kind of job and I know the knowledge that flows through this forum someone will have a good idea,

Cheers in advance

Corey.

A zoom that is long enough to stay out of the way. I know very little about this but the delivery rooms in our hospital are really bright. I have seen photos by authorized medical personal of just born infants.

35 1.4

I shot my daughter's birth with the Sigma 30 1.4. If I get to do it again, I'll pick up the 35. Our rooms were pretty bright too - especially when the actual delivery begins and the doctor gets in the room.

Thanks guys! 35 1.4L is a beautiul bit of glass!! I used one in a chapel for a wedding where there is a no flash rule and only candle lit, it was so dark I shot at 1.8 iso 1600 and still only got 1/25th!! She will be aloud to bounce flash during the labour but will need high ISO and a fast lens for the birth and post birth pics, 35L may be a good option! Thanks!

Basically I've decided to get her a 24-70 2.8L and throw her 50L in the bag, sounds like the winning plan to me, thanks mate for confirming my thoughts
