Well my Lexar FW UDMA FW 800 reader is dead. Not sure if I'm ready to buy another so does anyone have any suggestions?
I see SanDisk has one but $169?

Any other suggestions ?
It seems anywhere I look I find Hoodman (out of stock) and others simply no longer available.

I won't be touching any USB 2.0 ones since they don't come close to FW transfer rates.

Thanks

I recently purchased a FW 400/800 reader from Synchrotech , this unit was recommended
to me by Terry White ( he reviewed it on his blog ) and it's just as fast as my (fubar) Sandisk FW reader. $65 plus shipping, IIRC.

Regards,
Eric

Strange. Mine did the same thing. I couldn't get it to work at all. It is sitting in a drawer. I replaced it with a USB 3 card reader from Delkins.

Note: I believe the Lexar has been discontinued.

Thank you both for the response, I have since learnt from Lexar that the model I have a FW 800 UDMA will not work with with Mac OSX 10.7 - most annoying - Unfortunately I don't have USB 3 on my system however I must hunt down a FW 800.

I'll check out the Synchrotech - Incidentally I was in Terry Whites group when I lived in Detroit.
He is a good source for technology information ;-)a
