I attempted a Big Day in Clatsop County, Oregon last Sunday and have only now been able to get around to the pictures. With a total of 20 hours in the field I was very tired. Because I was attempting to list as much as I could during the 24 hour time period, I rarely got an opportunity to shoot any decent pics (only five keepers). Three from this series was shot during the Big Day (Hairy Woodpecker; Hermit Warbler, Bald Eagle).
Considering it is the middle of summer I was fairly happy with the count. There were some obvious misses like Virginia Rail and Yellow-Rumped Warbler, Barn Owl, and Great Horned Owl but other than that we hit most of the species that are around here this time of year. There were also nearly zero ducks, but that's what you get for trying a Big Day in summer. We could have added at least five more species from our sea watch but unluckily it was completely dead.
Start Time: 0400
End Time: 2400
Total Miles Driven: 202 miles
Total species seen: 105
Obvious Misses: 5
Hope you enjoy,
Hermit Warbler (Big Day)
Hairy Woodpecker (Big Day)
Bald Eagle (Big Day)
House Wren
Pacific Slope Flycatcher washing/drinking from our pond (from today, one of my favorite birds)
