Could anyone enlighten me concerning around when the price for the new 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II will begin to fall? I wasn't around when the first one came out and Google didn't find anything useful. I realize no one can know for sure, but any educated guess would be helpful. Thanks.

It'll dip when the 70-200 f2.8L III is released.

Seriously, I wouldn't look for a price drop right away. Canon production facilities are still recovering from the earthquake and this lens is appears to be in demand.

I was one of the first purchasers of the MkII.

The price of the old lens actually went up as the MkII was about 1k more and as Canon stopped producing the MkI the used and new price remained high.

Canon only really updates this sort of lens every 8 years so accept you're going to have to pay decent money but take solace in the fact that the resale value will remain high.

It was $1850 for about three months earlier this year. Then it went up to $2000 again, and now $2100 again.

This must be for used, because there is no way those prices quoted are for new. $2499 is the going rate.

no way it would have went for 1850 new. Maybe if it was stolen or on a dogy website where they don't send you the lens but rather steal money. But then again I've seen the lens for around 1200. Not like I'm going to buy it. Street price atm is 2300-2500, shop price here in australia is 3200-3400. Yes no joke. it is a zoom lens with the IQ of primes from 70-200. the price point is valid. People are dumping their 135 f2 to get this lens because you cannot tell the difference between that and this lens at f2.8.

Maybe if we get a rebate period this fall you can get it for $200 off. But I wouldn't expect the normal price to drop much.

Oops. Looks like they didn't include this lens as part of the rebates going on right now: http://www.the-digital-picture.com …d-Flash-Rebates-Available (external link)

What is stated is true, I buy n sell here a ton and it did drop to a very tempting 1800-1850 range for a while. I regretted not jumping on it.

Thank You,
