Have to agree with Argyle, the focus missed on both, so bringing them back in edit will only make them look worse, just me:(

To steer you in another direction, rather than spend time editing mediocre images why not reconstruct and take better images, or do a session with her in dress specifically for her first communion. I'm sure you'd get some lovely images to commemorate.

You know it looks like she might naturally have "bags" under her eyes. And looking at the 2 originals, I'd take these compared to some photos of my brothers' and sisters' first communion photos from the 60s and 70s. :)

the second pic was shot tooo slow. thats why there is camera shake.
in photo shop hit "shift apple L" that will do auto levels if tat doesn't work hit "apple L" that will do levels and you can make quick color and exposure changes

Yes, camera shake is the main problem in your second pic, not focusing.
Next time tell your hubby to use at least ISO 800 in this kind of lighting; a little noise is way easier to handle in PP than camera shake ;).

Anyway, here's my attempt.

Thanks guys for everyone's comments. I really appreciate the help. Yes, I think I might put her in the dress again and try some more shots. I just wish I had taken the time on the day but stress just got the better of me and I was more focused on feeding 100 people! Thanks again!!!

bTW - I think a great deal has been lost in the upload... on my computer they don't look that out of focus. Good point on the ISO... I forgot to tell him to bump that up!! DOH!!!
