Finally I opened the box for Tammy today and 17-50 Non VC is really good. I am impressed shooting pictures on first day indoors during daylight. Even with couple of 50W bulbs lit in the room during evening, I was able to take nice pictures and it is really sharp for the price I paid.

I was not able to do that on 24-105L which I had to send back to Canon and get a new one due to QC issues on refurbished lens. Maybe it was a bad copy ? I am debating now to return 24-105L and pick up 55-250mm to pair up with my 17-50 Non VC.

Congrats on you liking the best bang for your buck Tammy. Dont know your budget but i suggest you return the 24-105 and consider picking-up a nice used 70-200 f4 IS USM for around $900.

Regards, ;)

I think for less than $1000 if I can have 50mm f/1.4, Tamron 17-50 Non VC, 430EX II and 55-250mm, why get 24-105L ? All that combined is the price of 24-105L, so it logically makes sense at this price point I am better off not getting 24-105L.

doh! i'm in the same boat as the ateet. got the 24-105, but now you mentioned the 17-50 tammy.. especially at f2.8... hummm...... now need to reconsider and search for some sample photos. for less than half the price for a tammy vs. canon 24-105L. humm... wish i can have both.

1. started with a tammy 17-50 non-vc, traded it for a 24-105. Was happy but missed the 17mm on a cropped body, so bought another one. now i use the 17-50 indoors and the 24-105. still have the 430exII if needed
2. never had a problem with focusing on the 17-50 and a 430

What do you think about the fact keeping 24-105 and 17-50 at the same time ? I see you have both.

I have the 15-85 for outdoor/travel/walk around and I've just ordered the 17-50 for indoor/low light work.

That is also a good option since you already have 15-85. I think 24-105L should work magic outdoors since that added focal length is really nice. Second thought of mine is that I can keep both 17-50 non VC and 24-105L and forget about upgrading for next 3 years atleast.

Finally decided what I want to do... Decided to part with my 24-105L and keep 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.8 on 60D. Both 50mm and 85mm ranges should be very useful for portraits and indoors due to faster apertures.

Will try to see what works best with zooms... ideally toss up between Tamron 17-50 non VC & 55-250mm and Canon 15-85mm.
