I got into a debate with a few people about the differences between Canon L and Zeiss glass. They aren't convinced that there is no difference between the two. So, the three questions I have are:

1) What makes it so special?
2) Is the microcontrast really there?
3) Is Zeiss better than Canon?

Let's discuss! Thanks! :)

I have no experience with either Zeis or Canon L primes, but your topic made me think of this DigitalRev video i recently came across...

I would also like to know: 35mm f/1.4, Canon L Vs the new Zeiss, which one should get?

And I read the review last week "Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 (ZE) Lens Review":

Wonder what your guy think.

Thanks. I saw that video. I really want feedback from those who have used Zeiss and Canon. :)

I saw that review. The 35 1.4 is great but, I just took delivery of the 35 f2 and it's excellent. :) If you need f1.4-1.8, go for it.

Seem 85L has more detail than Zeiss 85.

Idk. I own the 85 L but, it's the Zeiss that fancies me for it's rendering.

I can state with certainty that the auto focus performance of the Canon L lenses is better.

As long as it doesn't front- or back-focus. ;)

Im using MF for a couple of weeks now, and have very hight keeper rating, arount 95+%, i have absolutely no problem getting sharp eyes @ f2.0 in almost every shot i got. And actually i find it more fun and artistic to shot MF, without recomposing and boring focus points.

I can barely focus with AF, I'd be really scared, Norton, to use mf. Though I do want their macro where AF isn't very useful anyway.

I don't have any Zeiss lenses, but I will soon.

From images posted in the Lens Sample threads, I can very often tell a Zeiss lens by the "look" of the image. Measurebating aside, I think there is a difference.

And that's enough for me.;)

but i'll go with the guy who said: "Zeiss 3D effect is BS"

because that saves me money :D
