My summer holiday in Cumbria.

Sunset over Eden Valley. (external link) by Jeff and Rebecca Murray (external link), on Flickr

A hand-held 8 shot pano - sadly and stupidly I used AF and it lost focus on the sun. My daughter rounded me up to take this and I had to cycle to the location - leaving the tripod at home. So I set up with AF and OIS - and the contrast into the sun blew the focus. My own fault.

All shots have a Lee 100mm CPL and a HiTech 0.9 soft grad ND. Taken with Canon 5D Mark ii and kit lens (I think or Sigma 17-35mm EX DG).

I had to add the sky in this shot. Despite filtering the sun through the tree - it still blew out the sky. But I loved the gold tone on the grass so much I persevered with the shot and cheated in the sky from another sunrise (on Arran).

The most commented shot of the series (on Facebook) - but my preference is for the Golden Gate.

With kind regards

Beautiful shots and I love the way you've formatted your images (titling and border). The Golden Gate view is special...though I'd be tempted to call it "Bag End".;)

Thanks very much David very kind of you. It is interesting what farmers will leave in the fields - you never know when there will be a hobit there.

I had a look at your flickr site - you have many beautiful images senstively captured and presented.

With kind regards

Penines is my favorite, but I wish you would PS that contrail out of the sky. All are really well done.

Lovely pictures from a lovely part of the world, Jeff... (even if I am biased - I live in Kendal).

Thanks alyyfc - it is lovely in Cumbria - these were taken slightly east of Penrith. I went down with the intention of getting around the area a bit - ie: Wast Water, etc. However I was a little too relaxed and didn't set the alarm. You're very fortunate with locations for photography
Thanks Jon - sometimes I leave them in - you're right this one is a little distacting - I'll remove it tonight and will re-publish in a week or so as I hate that 'this photo is currently unavailable' problem.
Thanks Irishman - you're all very kind.

With kind regards

Thanks Dave - very kind of you to say. Wish I got the aperture and focus right in 1 & 3. Cubria is very photogenic.
